Hook-nosed Camel F*cker. Esquire.

- Note to Indian celebrities, and Indians in general: if you insist on travelling to a country with a known propensity for racially profiling people with brown skin and/or Muslim names, irrespective of diplomatic immunity etc, don't complain if you're strip-searched or arrested without cause. Nobody forced you to go there; you brought it on yourself. The rest of us have more important things to do than feel sorry for you.
- In the Bengali language, "Kofi Annan" means, literally, "Please have coffee brought here". For the man who's always been the major domo of the Empire, there's no more fitting name.
- Hoppy Norther, Wester and Souther, all you animals!
- I've just invented, quite serendipitously, a new term for Empire/EU media propaganda: the British/American Lie Machine. It's meant to be the soothing BALM to the Western soul.
- I was at the dental association's state chapter's annual meeting last night. Had a close shave; was nearly nominated for vice president. Escaped by the plaque of my teeth. Whew!
- One of the greatest ways of educating oneself on the incredible mindlessness of the human race is to browse the response columns of any even faintly liberal/anti-war article, and read the bigotry, mendacity, and general ignorance of people posting aggressive right-wing replies. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't want to risk depression, though.
- Happy Leap Year, everyone!
- Happy Enrich Greeting Card Manufacturers, Florists, Jewellers, Chocolate Company Board Members and Restaurateurs Day. For they are the true recipients of your love and affection. The Cynical One has spoken.
- Congratulations to Russia and China for vetoing another lying, imperialist resolution in the UN made by the Empire, its NATO vassals, and its West Asian puppets. Syria must not be made another Libya. Looks like the forces of evil may have shot themselves in the foot rather, by bombing Libya on made-up grounds and creatively interpreting a UN resolution. Now the world knows not to trust them with any resolution at all - and Libya is far less important than Syria, geopolitically speaking. Meanwhile, this blog expresses its full support to Bashar Assad against the NATO-Al Qaeda alliance and its puppet 'rebel army'.
- The more modern science fiction I read, the more I yearn for the golden era of the sixties and seventies. The science was laughable, what with faster than light travel, humanoid Martians, a Venus of forests and swamps, yada yada, but the plots were comprehensible, the characters real, and the author was telling a story. With most modern day SF , bar a few exceptions like Greg Egan, I haven't the faintest idea what the heck the story is about. First, I'm too busy trying not to drown in a sea of jargon (like p-branes, false vacuum states and so on) to keep track of the plot. And then often there doesn't seem to be a plot, at least one I can identify, because the author's so busy pushing science at us that he forgets the fiction.

Back during my schooldays, we had a teacher (a monk of the Christian Brothers of Edmund Rice, not the most liberal organisation in history) called Brother Beddoe. This person would only occasionally teach our class, but was chiefly memorable for the... more
